MyBlogLog’s New Messaging Feature
Of all the fancy schmancy features MyBlogLog has introduced, the new messaging feature allowing you to spam the hell out of your community has to be my least favourite. I certainly don’t want to start seeing “OMG I had a meat loaf for lunch!!eleventyone!!!” in my message box and then “OMG I think I’ll have sushi for dinner today!!!oneeleventy!!!”. Certainly not when it’s 1 a.m. and I’m starting to get hungry just typing this up and I’ve no business thinking about food. Now please excuse me while I go hunt down some food.
Edit: Now if MyBlogLog doesn’t come up with an option to disable this spamity spam, I’m going to have to force someone on the team to visit a website with blinding, flashing, seizure-inducing colours, obnoxious page transitions and embedded audio that plays My Heart Will Go On. The remixed techno version. On loop.
Edit strikes back: Think I’m the only one grumbling about this spanking new feature? Check out Avi’s post “MyBlogLog Mass Messaging – Swallow Spam or Die“. He also included links to other bloggers who’re also gnashing their teeth over this feature brought to you by popular demand. Really, all these people demanding this feature, do they have mailboxes that look like this “xksodfikas@gmail.com” and send polite emails to decent folks asking them if they want their “johnsons enlarged”?

AGREED!
(I hate that they did that…)
Bloglog…what is the matter with them? And just when your community was “hot” again.
But, sushi (gorilla style) sounds good.
LOL~I’s sure they will come up with a disable feature one of these days..apart from that you should try ostrich steak :)
I hope you found the food of your choice at 1 AM.
By the way, I’m inviting you to read my post about MBL’s new messaging feature. I’ll appreciate it if you leave a comment explaining why the newly added mass-messaging feature is your least favorite. I’m also going to include your link in the list of cool people who are against this mass-messaging a.k.a mass-spamming feature. People like Andy Beard, Rob Watts, Meg and others are already in the list.
Thanks!
- Avi
Glad it’s not just me with the 27 daily new emails asking if I want my “johnson” enlarging!
Grrr.
Meleah, it’s annoying, isn’t it? I might have to make real on my threat.
Botheyesgreen, hi, I’m botheyesblack. I’m not sure I can find ostrich steak in this country.
Avi, unfortunately, I went to bed hungry.
Geedos, I just got another one asking me if I want to “make love like a man”. Not really, no.
I never found much use for the comments on Mybloglog anyway. I suppose that I think that people should actually come to my site and make a little effort if they really want to tell me something.
Sushi-gorilla style. Awesome.
Lis: Please make good on the threat, (people will back that shit up, like me) Mybloglog WAS one of the best networking sites, but this feature makes it myspace-ish. eew… mkay.
I had to spend half the day deleting comments I didn’t care for.
Not. Cool.
Jason: Is there any other way to eat sushi? c’mon now! and I agree, if you liked what you read, and really READ IT, then, you would LEAVE A COMMENT on my BLOG….
Liz, the crazy person in me wants to keep the messaging the way it is so we can see your techno page ;) Nah, we’ll talk about it on Monday and figure out what’s best, based on community feedback.
Sorry for the annoyance and thanks for using Mybloglog (and major thanks for the feedback).
What a hilarious threat. Send me the coding if you actually do it, I could use those ‘blinding, flashing, seizure-inducing colours, obnoxious page transitions and embedded audio that plays My Heart Will Go On. The remixed techno version. On loop.’ for a few sites I’d like to threathen!
The feature is asinine and I have been deleting garbage comments left and right. It would have been nice if used with restraint and only for true announcements. I’ve had only one of those out of the several dozen “idiot” spams. Turn it off! It causes one to ignore the message feature altogether.
Wow, Robyn Tippins! Way to be a squeaky wheel, Lis!
Thanks for the nomination but I think you deserve it more than me …

lol@ my heart will go on. I do really hate embedded audios Lis. Was surfing @ 3am one night when this small knocking sound could be heard. Scared beyond crap, (* by virtue of watching Emily Rose; 3am is not a very friendly hour) I crinched in fear, only to find that it came from my earphones hooked to the notebook. Someone’s blog had this dance music on and the bass was just pounding away. I suppose one just has to be careful when joining a community in future. :(

The new feature really pisses me off. I had to disable all email notifications because of all the horrible spam. Mybloglog made a terrible decision.
What? Is she supposed to be e-famous? *Just crawled out from under a rock*
Blogger’s comment system sucks. I can’t reply to individual comments.
I use wordpress. I love wordpress. No spam…oh I get spam but wordpress has akismet and it quickly stops spam from going anywhere except to a delete spam folder.
Hi Marsha, I was actually grumbling about the spam from MyBlogLog’s latest messaging feature, not Blogger. I’ve heard good stuff about Wordpress though.
Amen!!! Amen!!! I agree 100%. If I want to visit a site I’ll click on a face. I don’t need a poorly written ad in my message box.
Yes, definately looking forward to an options to disable them. Getting fed up with the ‘I don’t want to be another one to abuse the new commenting system but…’ emails.
Regards,
Ian
I’m SO glad to find others agree with me! It’s irritating as hell.
I hate having to root thru messages just to find the valid ones, and the time spent having to delete all the insincere garbage. Some are leaving messages on a daily basis, and have never spent the time to visit many of the blogs they’re spamming.
I’ll see if I can add my name to that list of others to be able to voice another opinion on it.
Nice to meet you Lis. Famed you and your blog on BTF :) Looking forward to the enabled feature on spam blocking there too.
We were looking forward to the seizure-inducing pages you promised us but eventually realized that it was not to be. The team let out a big sigh and added the ability to opt-out of Community Message features (it’s right there, on the bottom of your Profile).
We did find this link for you though. Throw your headphones on and enjoy!

Uhm dude, if you want me to click on one of those sites, at least disguise the link. Sheesh.
Good to hear about the opt-out option. Thanks!
