Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
You know, I wasn’t paying much attention when I was typing the title and nearly typed it as Harry Potter and the Deadly Harrods. I’m sure if I’ve a chance to visit UK, Harrods will indeed be deadly to me, or more specifically, to my pocket.
Spoilers. I think most people belong to two camps when it comes to spoilers. They’re either of the “spoil me and I’ll skin you alive with my bare hands and k33l j00 d3ad” variety or the “meh, who cares? I’ve more important things to think about such as is that a pimple on my face?” sort. I belong to both and neither. When it comes to television, I love to be spoiled. In fact, I stalk Television Without Pity on a regular basis. Well, this is mostly because we usually get US TV shows months after they’ve been shown. Sometimes whole seasons have ended before we get to watch them on TV. The only shows screened live are the scripted reality shows and I’m not a fan of those. Ok, I used to watch American Idol but I stopped when I realised Simon’s manboobs were growing bigger and bigger. I was afraid they were gonna poke my eyes out some day. Hey, if Sadako could crawl out of a TV, Simon could jolly well blind me from one too. I know I could probably download watch the TV shows in a timely fashion from the internet and stuff but I’m not crazy about watching TV on a screen that’s smaller than 20″. I like to be able to see every pore on hot Peter Petrelli’s face. We were slightly more than one month behind US for Heroes so I’ve already read the review for the last episode before it was shown. Still, you can only appreciate how stupid crazy the scene where the super hot Petrelli brothers flew into the sky looked after you’ve seen it.
Now movies on the other hand is a big no-no when it comes to spoilers. I’m not usually a violent person but seriously, if you try to spoil me, I’ll kick you in the balls at least three times. While wearing boots. With metal studs. And that’s before I really start hurting you.
Books are in a grey area. Most of the time I don’t mind being spoiled. Hell, I was spoiled for Harry Potter and the Half- Blood Prince and nobody ended up dead from massive blood loss in the balls. Which brings me to this. I’ve somehow managed to get my hands on an advance copy** of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
and have debated whether I should post the spoiler online. I even did the whole flower-petal-peeling thing. You know, should I? Shouldn’t I? I decided I should but only if protective measures are put in place so that if you don’t want to, you won’t read it accidentally. So here goes, scroll down for spoiler.

Continue scrolling…

And scrolling…

Look! It’s a bird!

Are you ready for the spoiler?

You can’t handle the spoiler!

Almost there…

What did you have for breakfast? I had a tuna bun. It was yummy.

This is it. You’ve reached the point of no return. Highlight the text in between the spoiler warning lines. (Author’s Note: I’ve no idea if this works in a RSS reader so you have my sincerest apologies if you’re accidentally spoiled.)
–SPOILER WARNING–
There’s some kid named Harry and he does magic and stuff.
–SPOILER WARNING–
** Except not really. You didn’t think I’d actually be able to get my hands on one, did you?
Enjoy your book tomorrow!
Edit: Hello people who came via Google, the hallows are deathly, not deadly. This is why you ended up here. Do a search for “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Spoilers” instead.

Lis….you are so funny.
(Like as in Tina Fey smart/funny.who happens to be my comedy idol.)
I am of the “”meh, who cares? I’ve more important things to think about such as is that a pimple on my face?” brand of person. EXCEPT for books.
I love the comic pictures… (see why I don’t trust you wouldn’t draw on my face!)
Great post, and you ALMOST had me going for a secoond!
I love Tina Fey. I wish I can keep her in my pocket! Whee!
LOL
So am I the only person that’s never read these books? I’m a “reader” too. Love my Stephen King and RR Martin. I just never felt compelled to read Harry Potter.
I have seen the movies, though not this latest one.
Great spoiler – I’ve never read a single Harry Potter book but thanks to you I now know what it’s all about!
I might even nip down to the local bookstore to check it out properly … now that is magic!
Oh NO :(
All these years I thought it’s a step by step pottery tutorial.
Now I got it’s magic pottery. ;)
Thanks for hint.
I love these spoilers, short and useful.
This was HYSTERICAL Lis!!! Well, Well Done!
I LOVE Tina Fey too. Probably the sexiest person on TV to me personally. I literally get a stupid grin on my face for 30 mins every time I watch her on 30 Rock.
Ummm, have I shared too much??
BTW, can I add you to my blog list??
Linda, I’ve heard lots of good stuff about RR Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire”. Is it really that fantastic?
Geedos, and I didn’t even need a wand to perform this magic!
Soroush, 7 thick books for a pottery tutorial? That’s one hell of a looong tutorial.
Michael, I love her on 30 Rock. That’s the next best thing since Arrested Development was killed off. Of course you can add me!
Thanks, consider yourself added! Yeah, Arrested Development was great. I giggle like a 12-year-old school girl through both The Office and 30 Rock. Again, I have said too much ;-)
Lis, great post. You are such a tease.
Trik out.
Michael, is that the US version of The Office? I’ve only seen the UK version.
Thanks, Trik!
Yes it is Lis. Go figure, I’ve only seen the US version ;-)
I’m just glad 30 Rock get renewed.
Wait, there’s a pimple on my face?? Why didn’t anybody tell me??
I hate movie spoilers for new movies – if you want to tell me about Dirty Dancing’s twist ending, that’s cool.
I avoid the TV spoilers because I download them (computer hooked into my entertainment system) and my cable company offers them “on-demand” too. If I get spoiled, there’s always next week to get surprised again.
As for books, spoil away. I can’t stand reading books at all. I read on-line for hours but can’t stomach a book for more than a few minutes. I think I miss the banner ads and pop-ups.
OMG Jason’s comment is crazy hysterical…
And 30 Rock IS the best show since Arrested…
Now I know why I liked you right away…(aside from your always awesome posts) You have EXCELLENT taste in Television!
Jason, I’m sure someone somewhere is already trying to figure out how to insert banner ads and pop-ups in books.
Mel, you’ve to answer one question before you’re deemed worthy to be my friend. Now tell me honestly, do you like LOST?
There’s people out there who DON’T like LOST?? Do they have TVs?
Uhm, I don’t. I think it’s a huge yawn fest.
you really crack me up :) and i got the copy of the book on the day of the launch in Shanghai. i had to travel more than 300kms to get it (no. i didn’t really go for the book – the shopping was more important!)
even though i haven’t even turned to the first page, i still highlighted your spoiler – knew you wouldn’t do such a thing :)
had good fun reading this!
and i quickly checked by “deathly” spelling!
I have never watched the show Lost. (sorry!)
Tracy, I haven’t even bought the book yet!
Mel, that’s even better! You’re now my BFF!
Hey Lis, I’m beginning to think I’m the only person in this whole wide universe that hasn’t read a Harry Potter book! And I’m not going to start now. I love reading but Harry Potter ain’t my thing. Come to think of it, I’ve only seen some of the movies in bits and pieces …
Heh, you’re definitely not the only one. I’ve friends who love fantasy books but just can’t get into the HP books.
this you may find hard to believe but i have not read the book or watched a single harry potter movie.
Well, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea.
Nicely done…. :)
Thanks! :)
Hey Lis
I updated the link, yes it was a mess up on my end.
keep up the good work
