Dear James Blunt fan girls,
Here’s a newsflash for you. James Blunt is NOT a freakin’ musical genius. He’s just some stupid bloke with a shitty voice who writes shitty songs with shitty lyrics and shitty music. They are not “wistful”, “moving” or”inspiring”. They do not “tug at the heart strings” unless it’s the murderous one. They’re just stupid emo shit, and not even good emo shit at that. His voice is not “interesting”, “beautiful” or “haunting”, at least not in a good way anyway. It’s fucking whiny. He’s not a bloody tormented tragic lovelorn poet. He’s not even particularly hot. In short, he’s not a fucking beautiful unique snowflake.
His songs are absolutely music to my ears, you know, the kind that sounds like fingernails scratching across a blackboard. It makes me want to stick a finger into my eye and give my brains a swirl. The songs also rank right at the top together with “My Heart Will Go On” on my list of songs that put me in a stabbity mood. Heaven.
And now he’s back to assault my senses once more. Somebody get him off my fucking radio.

Hey, I couldn’t agree more! I was afraid it was a generational thing…I just don’t get these kids and their music today…But, yeah, he is hideously bad on every level… His voice is annoyingly high-pitched and morose. The song of his I’ve heard has no substance and is just plain sappy. There is so much good music in the world – today and from yesterday! Listen, world, don’t take what others say is good at face value…go find music and artists that are really worth listening to!

Gina, yeah! His music and lyrics are boring and repetitive and not at all original. We all have our guilty pleasures so if you like his stuff, by all means knock yourselves out and listen to him 24/7, just don’t hail him as some kind of musical genius.

I found your post while Googling for something else. I’d never heard of this guy, either. You’re right; he’s awful. Whoever signed him to a recording contract should be slapped.
Come on Lis, tell the truth, how do you really feel? I have to say i agree with you and some of the stab your eyes out stuff that passes for music on the radio in our pop infested culture that forgot what real music was all about. Thanks for reminding me how much I really don’t like the crap and now I am going to go take a nap cause I am tired of thinking about it.
