Happy 50th Anniversary, Lego

Thanks to Google, I’m sure many of you know by now that it’s Lego’s 50th anniversary. Lego’s seriously the greatest toy ever made. Sure, I’ve played with the usual Barbie dolls and stuff, but Lego remains my greatest love. It brings back fond memories of lazy afternoons spent building the next Playboy mansion while my kid brother sits quietly in a corner, busy trapping ants with Lego windows.

What do you mean my brother’s a freak?

He wasn’t a cruel boy or anything like that. Hell, he even made small paper coffins for the tiny ants after they’re done pining for the fjords and joined the choir invisible. He had respect for those ants. Oh yes, he did.

What do you mean my brother’s still a freak?

Anyhow, it was common to have our living room looked like we forgot to pick up our toys with the Lego windows strewn carelessly around. In actual fact, the Lego windows were carefully placed ant traps.

Of course, he doesn’t do that anymore. He’s discovered girls.

And then there’re these clips that combined my two biggest loves, Lego and Monty Python:

    These were awesome! Python rocks.

It’s kind of scary that when I feel like I’m in danger of doing some
actual work, I know that I can visit here and you’ll keep me
    otherwise occupied.

    Thanks for that. I think.

I remember stealing my cousins lego pieces when I didn’t have enough to build whatever it is I was building. And when he asked me if I took any I kept on denying it till this very day. In fact I blame my other cousin … LOL! He’d better not be reading your blog or I’m dead meat! I just love lego!

Oh and you’ve been awarded at my blog!

my aunt gave me a 2500 piece lego set when i was 5, which my mother promptly kept at the very top of our toy shelf because “you’re too young to use it.” ( to my mother, i was too young to use it until I was 13 and was no longer interested in playing with it.)

to circumvent this parental cruelty and deprivation, i used to defy death and climb the headboard of my bed to get to the top of our study table – to reach the lego box. i would then play with the contraband pieces (since I wasn’t allowed to open the sealed box fully) until i grew tired of them – and once again do the whole circus act routine to put them back before my parents got home.

    it’s a wonder i survived to adulthood.

by the way, lis, i got feed burner, so i’m not sure how that’s going to affect your subscription. :) just so you know.

Wow, that’s extreme. I think I started playing with Lego around 6 or 7. My first Lego set was a post office, I think.

Thanks for letting me know about the feed.

Yeah! I sure hope 50 years from now, kids are still playing with Lego.

I was never able to actually build anything out of legos, other than really long sticks of course. I guess I just wasn’t that architecturally inclined.

      But they came with instructions!

Haha, I just uploaded a bunch of pictures from my digital camera and apparently my 5 year old had got a hold of it because there were at least 20 pictures of his Legos, the best one is here: http://uglymailbox.com/Photos/lego.jpg
