New Year Resolutions

Everyone and their grandmama has done it (and probably went “sod it” 3 seconds after making them). The funny thing (as in funny weird, not funny haha, ok, maybe a little funny haha too) is, I keep reading about all these bloggers talking about how they never keep these resolutions anyway but they still make them year after year blah blah blah. So tell me, who are the weirdos out there who actually keep the resolutions they’ve made? Cos’ you sir, are a rarity worthy of a museum.

I don’t make resolutions because I know I’ll never keep them. In all honesty, I would’ve forgotten all about them 3 days later because besides having the attention span of a cockroach, I also have the memory of a goldfish. However, I think it’s time to break my tradition and come up with a few resolutions. So here are my resolutions for 2008.

I resolve to:

1) Draw more stick men.
2) Work the word “peripatetic” into conversations with unsuspecting colleagues.
3) Stop pretending I’m David Sedaris trapped in a skinny Asian chick’s body.
4) Watch more stupid crap movies so I can review them on my blog.
5) Avoid stupid people Nah, this one is impossible to keep.
6) Make funny faces at babies.
7) Make funny faces at strange men.
8) Buy a new handbag since the green one is so 2007.
9) Make some money online so I can move this damn blog to its own shiny domain.
10) Forget all of the above by tomorrow.

I thought I’ll also throw in some of my favourite/popular posts from last year. Hope they were as good for you as they were for me.

Apocalypto - Movie review where nekkid butts abound.
Troy - Another movie review. I probably enjoy doing them more than I’ll admit.
Harry Potter and the Deadly Dentist - What is more surprising is the number of people who did searches for “harry potter dentist stories”.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - THE letdown book of 2007.
Die, Stupid People, Die Redux - Sad to say, I’ve come across some of these specimens while browsing Entrecard blogs.
Bathroom Acrobatics - First (and possibly last) time I tried my hand at a web comic.
Ode to Pens - The first of more to come?

My News Years resolution was to think positive for a change. I even started a blog called AmericaHugs. I’m trying real hard today to keep thinking positive because my blog has disappeared. One positive thing is I still have my forum at AmericaHugs.com

    #10 is the right attitude.

Although my resolution is ONE THAT I WILL stick with!! :)

my friend always says that his new year resolution is to make a resolution the next year. hah. I should make one that less complicated like him.

At the very least, Lis, you better keep Resolution #1! More stick men! Or rather stick women!

Also, you should go watch “The Fountain” or “Aliens vs. Predator” or well, any film with Jessica Simpson in it. I’m sure you’ll love them all and write rave reviews.

Same here… I don’t have resolutions because I don’t keep them. I mean, I take resolutions all the time… but they last for about an hour.

I do make to-do lists a lot (even for “big” things, like “being more organized”) but who can tell whether I achieved the goal? Not even me!

I thought that I was the only one who pretended that I’m David Sedaris trapped in a skinny Asian chick’s body.

Much better than my resolutions - whatever they were
    ;-)

I didn’t make any resolutions this year because I rarely keep them. Instead, I’m focusing on just making goals occasionally year-round and then meeting them…

I kept last year’s resolution to go to the gym more than 3 times a year. :) But seriously, I don’t think resolutions really work anyway.

By the way, I’m thankful for entrecard because without it, I wouldn’t have found your blog which is hilarious!

Displayname, disappeared?? How did that happen?

    Mel, resolution? What resolution? ;)

Bluecrystaldude, I like your friend’s resolution.

Andrew, I’ve never heard of The Fountain but AVP is too crappy even for me! Way too much alien goo. Eugh.

Zhu, The only time I make to-do lists is when I receive shiny new leather bound organisers and I just want to write something in them. That usually lasts for about 2 days.

    Jason, you too?

Michael, heh. Good luck at beating your twins!

Nichole, that sounds like a much more achievable way.

    Min-tea, that’s 3 times more than me. ;)

New Years Resolution? Just what in heavens name would that be now? LOL!

Nope, I’ve broken every single resolution I’ve made every single year that the only thing that is constant in my life is breaking resolutions every year!

Great list- and your right, we can’t avoid stupid people…darn it!

My wife likes the movie Troy also. Admit it, you like it cuz of Brad, right??! If he’s not in it, then meh… maybe sit through Alexander instead, and watch Colin.

HA HA HA .. I see you LIKED my resolution! :)

I agree with you on #5… As my Nana use to say,”Some people don’t have the sense God gave a goose!”

    Happy New Year!

Regarding your last favorite/popular post: Ode to Pens. You do know that the Mercedes Pens guy that Jason left a comment about, made a pen mailbox?

    http://uglymailbox.com/unusual-mailbox/pen-covered-mailbox/

It’s like 6 Degrees of Separation stuff going on right here.

  17. Lis on 05.01.2008 at 12:57 (Reply)

Nick, so you belong to the “we need no stinkin’ resolutions” club, eh?

    Eve, world’s full of ‘em!

Rudy, wait, what? I don’t like Troy! I don’t even like Brad. I don’t like Colin either. Pfft.

Grace, your Nana’s darn right about that.

Linda, I think I saw that on your blog. Didn’t know it’s the same guy. Freaky. I bet one of us knows Kevin Bacon too.

When I have more time I’m going to take looks at your posts.

I pink puffy heart pens too.
