Over the weekend, I attended Jay Chou’s concert (which was awesome x 1000000000). Since I can probably see all the ??? over your heads (all 3.14 of you) at just who the hell this Jay Chou dude is, I won’t go into details of how awesome the concert was (awesomest x 10000000000). But you know, I don’t even listen to Chinese pop (except for awesome Jay Chou) so it was quite an experience to be surrounded in a sea of excited fans jibber-jabbering away in Mandarin. Plus, the guy was crazy talented. He sang, he danced, he rapped and he played the piano, guitar, drums and guzheng (Chinese instrument).

At the beginning of the concert, we were shown the trailer to his new movie, Kung Fu Dunk, which looks a lot like Shaolin Soccer except with a basketball. Anyway, if you’ve read the manga or watched the anime of Slam Dunk, it’s based on the series. I think.

The point of this post is that the trailer reminded me of a silly doodle I did years ago so I dug it out. Yes, my obsession with stick men started years ago.

Of course, I also wanted to gush about the awesome awesomeness of Jay Chou and the concert.

(Because I’m made up of 99% laziness and 1% do-it-only-when-I-feel-like-it, I’ve acquired a guest blogger who’ll also perhaps help to inject a little local flavour into this blog. StickManJohnTan and I are related by blood although the only family resemblance we share is that we both look like we belong to the human race. Well, somewhat anyway. If any girls became diehard fans (not of Bruce! Though he’s pretty funny in Die Hardest of all Die Hard 4.0) of Mel after watching “What Women Want”, I hate to break this to you. He’s not exactly drool-worthy. But then I’m a man who likes girls, so what do I know about sexy men except being one myself.

Anyhow, I bumped into Mel Gibson (or rather he bumped into me) at the National Museum of Singapore (yes, I’m sexy and culturally-inclined!). Regardless of how pauchy and haggard he looked, it’s still not everyday where you are 5 feet away from a mega hollywood actor cum producer cum director cum Irishman in kilt. I had great trouble deciding whether to holler out “WE FIGHT FOR OUR FREEDOM” or “You drunk racist bigot!”. In the end, I settled for what most normal law-abiding citizens of Singapore will do when they’re standing (5 feet!) in front of a hollywood celebrity: remain in awe and stare your eyeballs out.

After breaking out of the celebrity-trance, I started texting (furiously) a dozen friends that I just saw Mel “Freedom” Gibson (5 feet away!) and promptly received replies ranging from “Huh? in SG?” and “The Asian version?” (who the fuck is the Asian Mel Gibson?) to “Don’t bluff lah” and “What? Where? How did you know it was him?”.

Just another day of celebrity-spotting. I really hope I “bump” into Megan Fox the next time I visit the museum.
